1972 Constitutional Accord Of Pakistan

The people’s party government of Pakistan called for a meeting of the leaders of the parliamentary parties on 17th October 1972 which resulted into a ‘CONSTITUTIONAL ACCORD’ after a detailed discourse on the issue of framing a constitution for Pakistan. A committee of 25 members was appointed on 17th April 1972 to prepare a draft of the permanent constitution of Pakistan.

Muhammad Ali Kasuri was elected chairman of the committee. On 20th October 1972 the draft bill of the constitution of Pakistan was signed by the leaders of all parliamentary groups of National Assembly. The bill was unanimously passed by Assembly on 10th April 1973 and endorsed by late Z.A Bhutto as President of Pakistan on 12th April 1973.

The constitution was implemented on 14th August 1973 and Mr. Bhutto became the Prime Minister and Chaudhry Fazal-e-Elahi became the President (the constitution Head of state). The constitution consists of preamble and 280 articles divided into seven parts and seven schedules.
