A State Of Crisis Multiplicity – West And East Pakistan

The crisis of integration is linked with the question of legitimacy, democracy, development and distributive justice. The tragedy of the separation of its eastern wing did not occur in a day. Forces of disintegration had started working soon after the independence.

Very little was done to counteract the anti-state activities. Rather what all was done further promoted the cause of the separatists. The pleas and protestations of the people of East Pakistan went unheeded. West Pakistan’s politicians and powerful bureaucrats treated that land mass as their colony and gave its people the impression of being second rate citizens.

The fact of distinct Bengali language & culture wedged in between iron grip of a powerful Indian Bengali’s influence was not recognized. During Indo-Pakistan wars, Bengali’s always felt defenceless.
