Allama Iqbal Son Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal Biography

Javed IqbalJaved Iqbal who was the son of famous philosopher and poet Allama Iqbal was known as prominent senior justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan. He was also recognized as former Chief Justice of the Lahore High court.

Like his father, Javed Iqbal was also emerged as famous writer who had gained international famed due to his publications regarding modern Islamic philosophy and philosophy of law.

Early Life:

Dr. Javed Iqbal was born on 5th October 1924 in Sialkot as he was the son of Allama Iqbal and his second wife Sardar Begum. He lost his parents in his early age as his mother died when he was just 11 years old and father also left him when he was 14 years old. He got married to a retired judge of Lahore High Court Nasira Iqbal.

Education:

Javed Iqbal completed his BA (Hon.) from the Government College of Lahore in the year 1944. In 1948, he passed MA in English and Philosophy from the University of Punjab in honorary manner as he emerged as Gold Medalist of his batch. He then completed his Ph.D. degree from Cambridge University of UK in 1954 and became Barrister-at-Law in Lincoln’s Inn situated in London in the year 1956. He also gave lecture on ‘Future of the United Nations’ at the invitation of the US government in the top schools of US.

Career:

Javed Iqbal started his career as an advocate in Lahore High Court Bar Association and after some years he appointed as Vice President in 1965. After which appointed as a Judge of the Lahore High Court in 1971 and then he performed duties as Chief justice of the Lahore High Court from 8 March 1982 to 5 October 1986. After which, he took oath as a judge of the Supreme Court and was retired on 4th October 1989. On the other hand, Javed Iqbal wrote various books on Pakistan’s movement, ideology and its nationalism. He spent his life as an intellectual after his retirement as he is the author of 12 books in English and Urdu while he had also written 3-volume biography of Allama Iqbal. Justice Javed Iqbal had also served as a senator and as the delegate of Pakistan in the United Nations (UN) during 1960–62 and in 1977.

His publications on political ideology in Pakistan, Islamic political thought, and the philosophy of his father Muhammad Iqbal were also published in national and international journals. Here are the name of some publications of Dr. Javed Iqbal:

Death:

Javed Iqbal was died on 3rd October 2015 in the age of 90 in Lahore as he was ill for several months and had been undergoing treatment at Shaukat Khanum Hospital. Justice Javed Iqbal was buried in the local graveyard of Lahore. A large number of people including Justice of Supreme Court Anwar Zuhair Jamali, Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Manzor Ahmed, former Chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani, Attorney Journal of Pakistan Salman Aslam Butt, Central leader of PTI Chaudhary Sarwar and several lawyers of Supreme Court were presented at the funeral of Javed Iqbal.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani and other political and religious figures expressed condolences on the death of Justice (R) Javed Iqbal. They said that the services of the late justice will always remember.
