Peoples’ Aman Committee (PAC) was founded in the year 2008 by the infamous dacoit Rehman Dakait. After his death, Uzair Baloch took the charge of the party. The militant group, based in Karachi is said to be a wing of the former governing party of Pakistan, Pakistan People Party (PPP). The committee was based in Lyari initially but began to extend in various areas of the city including Dalmia, Gadap Town, Malir, Golimar, Mawach Goth and the nearby towns and villages of Sindh and Baluchistan.
Under clause (11/B) of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, the committee had been termed as ‘defunct outfit’ in the year 2011. Strict orders have been directed to keep eye over their activities throughout the provinces. PAC is intense rival of MQM, the party that has hegemony over the metropolis city, Karachi. The militant group is actively involved in various crimes throughout the city including drug trafficking, plundering, target killing, extortion activities majorly. It has been known through the sources that the criminal body is highly active in kidnapping of businessmen in Saddar, Lyari and Sher Shah.
They own heavy arms and have various torture cells where almost every day rich, poor people are killed mercilessly. They are said to be allegedly involved in the massacre and deteriorating the city’s peace. Lyari that was once the centre of activities has become the ground of artilleries, gun shots, dead bodies. The disturbed situations have forced people to move to different areas.
