Ayub Khan Era – The Decade Of Development

In October 1958 iskander mirza declared Martial law and the constitution was abolished. General Mohammad Ayub Khan was at this time, the commander-in-chief of the army.
A cabinet of 12 members selected by the president was formed. Shortly afterwards, Iskander Mirza was remove from office and Ayub Khan became president. He stayed in power for the next ten years.

During Ayub Khan’s rule there were many reforms. A new constitution was passed in March 1962.A law was introduced to redistribute the land. Many new industries were set up. In 1959 the capital was moved from Karachi to the newly established city of Islamabad.

Ayub Khan’s era (October 1958 – March 1969) was known as ‘The decade of development”. In August-September 1965, Pakistan and India went to war once again over Kashmir. The fighting was ended by a ceasefire called by the United Nations at a meeting in Tashkent.
