B-com graduate & Jobs in Pakistan

Workplace Sanity. Dear Workplace Sanity, I am a 31-year-old B Com graduate and currently unemployed. Over the last 11 years I have held 17 different positions, including call centre agent, office assistant, waiter, storekeeper, receptionist, typist , among many other jobs that are usually easily available. I resigned from all of them out of sheer boredom. It might sound ironic but finding a job is a cakewalk for me.

Basically my problem is a lack of interest in work, society and life itself. I am neither passionate about anything, nor worried about the consequences. The reason for writing to you is because i am tried of this marathon and i still have a lot of time before i am entitled to retirement scheme. I am tried of switching, and would like to end my plea before you are tired of reading about it.
Thanks. Job Switcher

Dear Job Switcher, Wow…. that is a ‘marathon’ of jobs, but none of  of them seem to be leading you to career, unless you want to be known as an expert in getting service-level or front-line jobs. That could be a viable career for you – teaching other jobless people how to get entry-level jobs, but i think you are looking for something more.

Your letter reminds me of a gentleman i came across in one of my training programmes. He raised an interesting question, ”I make enough money to support my family and pay all he bills, isn’t that enough? Why should i work harder to make more money?”

After thinking about his question for a minute, i replied, ”Yes, it is enough if your earning potential is limited to that amount and you do not have the capability  to earn more. But it is NOT enough if your capability and potential for earning is a hundred times that amount. Then YOU are selling yourself short.”

From your letter I grasp that you have considerable potential.    . Don’t waste it in jobs that don’t provide you the opportunity to unleash it. Please, DON’T SELL YOURSELF SHORT.

All the success! Workplace Sanity!
