Badshahi Masjid

Badshahi Masjid is situated in the north-western corner of the old walled city. It was built by Aurangzeb. Placed on a raised platform the mospue is square in plan, and is approached by an imposing flight of steps. The middle of the western side is occupied by the prayer hall.

It was originally paved with cut-brick work in the form of musallahs (prayer mat) marked out by stripes of sang-e-abri & black marble but has now been replaced by marble slabs.

The front of the prayer hall contains a large central hall. Inside the mosque, in a small room, are kept some relies of the prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), Hazrat Ali, Hazrat Fatima, Imam Hussain, Imam Hassan, Hazrat Owais Qarni and Sheiki Abdul Qadir Gilani. The mosque can accommodate at least sixty thousand worshippers.
