Bench Formed On The Appeal Of Yaqoob Memon In India

Yaqoob MemonDelhi: The Supreme Court of India has stop the implementation of the death penalty on the brother of accused of Mumbai blast of 1993 after the mercy petition of Yaqoob Memon. According to the details, a two-member bench of the hearing of mercy petition of Yaqoob Memon was held by Supreme Court judges AR Dev and Crane Joseph.

However, due to different opinions on the mercy appeal of Yaqoob memon, the case was sent to the larger bench. Justice AR Dev rejected his mercy petition while declaring it as non-hearing while Justice Joseph gave stay order on the death warrants for the accused. On Wednesday, Chief Justice will take decision regarding stay orders on the death warrants of Yaqoob Memon.

It is worth mentioning here that a stance has been adopted in the mercy petition of Yaqoob Memon that he has been facing Schizophrenia disease since 1996 and has been in imprisonment from the past 20 years which is more than a life sentence. Yaqoob Memon also urged that death penalty and life sentence cannot be given together to any one in one case.

According to Indian officials, Tiger Memon and Dawood Ibrahim and his brother Anees Ibrahim are involved in the Mumbai Blasts. [alert style=”white”] It is pertinent to mention that Bollywood star Salman Khan had also opposed the death penalty to Yaqoob Memon.  [/alert]
