British Channel To Air Azaan During Ramadan

Channel 4 of Britain has decided to air Azaan every morning during Holy month of Ramadan. Channel 4 said that it was an act of “deliberate provocation” aimed at those viewers who associates Islam with extremism. Channel 4 will air Fajar Azaan every morning at around 3 AM. This broadcast will run for three minutes.

On first day of Ramadan (which is expected to be on 9th July) the channel will air Azaan during four times a day. 20 seconds film will be aired to remind viewers of the approaching prayer time.

Ralph Lee, Channel 4’s head of factual programming said they know that Channel 4 will be criticized for giving attention to a ‘minority’ religion. But Ralph added that this is what we do provide space to alternatives.

After this announcement thousands of British people started criticizing the move of Channel 4 and started saying that “BOYCOTT Channel 4!”. Many articles related to this decision was posted on internet, majority of them were criticizing the channel. However Muslims living in UK appreciated the move and they were of the view that it is good to see that a channel like “Channel 4” has taken this good decision.
