Karachi: Karachi University has allowed Rickshaw and Chingchi Rickshaw in the campus due to the shortage of transport and it has given complete authority to enter Rickshaw and Chingchi along with students in the campus. A Rickshaw, Chingchis makes it possible for people without their own vehicles to access the area.
Rickshaw drivers are allowed to put their vehicle on rickshaw stand as well as drive their Rickshaw and Chingchis at different places in the campus. The permission has been taken in the Karachi University Syndicate as a “Reported Item” as it has revealed in the recent syndicate’s agenda. Now Rickshaws and Chingchi transport are active in the campus to make easy reach of the people to their destinations.
In the history of syndicate, it has said by the head, Professor Dr Mohammad Qaiser thus KU’S administration is facing problems for providing the shuttle services that’s why by viewing this situation the Rickshaw and Chingchis are temporary allowed in the university campus.
Students are facing problems due to the unavailability of shuttle service in the Karachi University as the students, majority of them girls, come from far-flung areas of the metropolis to attend the university. There is as yet no adequate and reliable transport system available for the students, which could provide them with a safe and comfortable journey to and from the university.
KU transport chairman Professor Zulqarnain explains that their monthly budget of Rs200, 000 is simply not enough either. He admitted that there was a dire need for more buses. Taking advantage of this weakness, the rickshaw ‘mafia’ have long exploited with higher fares.
