Colombo Plan Of Pakistan

The member of the British Common Wealth assembled in Colombo in 1950 for the initial preparation of the Colombo Plan. The Government of Pakistan also included the current development projects initiated haste in six Year Plan (1951-57) which was to be commenced from the middle of 1951. As this plan was on the style of the Colombo Plan, it is called ‘Colombo Plan’.

Colombo Plan was prepared in haste just in a period of 3 months only. An amount of Rs.2600 million was allocated for the Public Sector. This plan was aggregate targets like employment, exports etc.

No special target was set for the private sector. The total attention was fixed at various projects on the individual project basis. This plan was abandoned two years before its allocated period and Five Year Planning was started in Pakistan.
