Education May Make You Ethical but Not Rich: Pakistani Government

Islamabad: Being educated makes a man ethical, and not necessarily rich. But the Pakistani context, contradicts with the perceived educational need. An advertisement published in one of daily local newspapers, defines what I am talking about.

An advertisement by National Electric Power and Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) calls for application for drivers at its Lahore based office.

In Western countries, where the researchers are acknowledged of their contribution, are much progressed and developed. We fail to recognize our intellects as national treasure. This is one of the reasons that we lag behind in development.

Following are the requirements and pay scale of the desired driver:

  • Age limit: 30 years
  • No. o positions: 01
  • Qualification and experience: Matric passed individuals, possessing LTV driving license. Experience holding individual of 3 years in respective position in any of the reputable institution.

While for the research officer post requirements and pay scale of the individual are as follows:

  • Position: Research officer
  • No. of posts: 3
  • Maximum Age limit: 30 years
  • Qualification and experience: M.Phil/ M. Sc Biological Sciences/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ The experience in the relevant field shall be considered an added advantage.

More over, the job is a year contract based. Here is snapshot

Hence proved, that earning good education does not guarantee you of a good pay scale in Pakistan.

Designated bureaucrats, dealing the foreign issues of the country are often ineligible for the post. But they manage to earn hefty amount due to their political contacts. Corruption is also another way to get rich. But unfortunately, educated class with less contacts fall at the hands of the institutions. Being paid less, they are forced to work. Pakistani Government has failed to give good opportunities not only to educate nation but also to educated people.

After all, earning is a necessity!
