Federal Shariat Court In Pakistan

The enforcement of Hudood Laws was followed by the establishment of Shariat Benches in each High Court and an Appellate Shariat Bench in the Supreme Court. The Shariat Court were empowered to dispose of appeals filed in them arising from judgments and orders of the Session Judges in cases tried under Hudood Laws, and to decide on petitions made before them for determining whether and in what respect any existing law was repugnant to the Holy Quran and the Sunnah.

The judgments of these Benches were made binding subject to decisions on appeals filed against them in the Shariat Appellate Bench in the Supreme Court. Appeals lie to the Supreme Court of Pakistan from judgments and orders of all the High Courts in the country as also from the Federal Shariat Court. The Supreme Court has concurrent Write jurisdiction similar to the High Courts.
