Forests In Pakistan

Forest play a vital economic and physical role in an economy but unfortunately, there is an acute shortage of forests in Pakistan. It could be assessed by revealing the fact that the total area of Pakistan is 19.7 crore acre out of which only 72 lacs acres or 3.7 percent is occupied by the forests.

Even out of 3.7 percent, only 47 lacs acres or 2.4 percent forests are productive or commercial forests. According to estimation, for the normal economic development, 25 percent of the total areas of a country should be covered by forests but this proportion is only 10 percent in Pakistan.

Industrial, construction a burning requirements of wood is satisfied by natural and coniferous hard wood forests in Pakistan. These natural forests consist of pine, sheesham and kher in specific.
