Garment Factory Fire Kills 260 In Baldia Town, Karachi

Karachi: As many as 260 persons are reported dead as garment factory catches fire yesterday around 6 pm located here in Baldia town, SITE area. The rescue officials are still not sure about the death toll as more bodies are recovering from the factory. It is told that there were around 250 employees working at the factory when the factory was set on fire.

Fire fighters are still working to get over with the fire as it is believed that the fire is still not under control. ‘Due to the small escapes and insufficient emergency exits it is becoming difficult for us to continue with our work, but still we have been trying our level best in order to control this fire’, said one of the rescue officers.

The same reason is provided from the officials for such a huge toll of death, that the employees were unable to find proper and effective emergency escapes and so could not rescue themselves. The reason for the fire is still not clear as the rescue officers could not find the exact reason but it is believed that it can be due to some short circuit, and since it was a garment factory so it did not take any time to spread and as there was no proper fire fighting system set inside the factory, the fire became worst and uncontrollable.

The owner of the factory has been arrested as the police raid his residence in Defence area early morning. He has been arrested because no pre-measures were taken by the management.

The government officials have also reached the site and have formed an investigative team in order to find the exact reasons for such a devastating incident.
