Heavy Loss Of 21 Billion Faced By National Exchequer

Power PlantIslamabad: Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power took a notice against heavy loss of 21 Billion which has faced by national exchequer for not buying electricity for Japan Power and SEPCOL (Southern Electric Power Company Limited) power plants which are located in Raiwind Lahore. According to the details, MD Private Power and Infrastructure Board and Ministry of Water and Power has called officials authorities today in this regard.

With respect to the documents, due to the non-purchasing of 230 megawatts cheaper electricity from Japan Power and SEPCOL power plants, loss of about 1 Billion per month is getting by national exchequer. It is pertinent to mention here that electricity is being purchasing by high speed diesel powered plants and Nandi Pur Power Plant which consume electricity 16 and 24 rupees per unit respectively instead of Japan Power and SEPCOL power plants which aims to consume 8.50 rupees per unit.

According to the agenda of the Standing Committee, a notice has been sent to management of Japan Power and SEPCOL power plants to attend the meeting today. It is to remember that National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has been suggested by SEPCOL and Power Company to freeze Tariff cases for 5 years and buy cheap electricity from SEPCOL and Power Plants on “Take and Pay” basis but Ministry of Water and Power is not ready.
