Dear Workplace Sanity, My husband has an MBA in marketing. He is working as an area Sales Manager and has 10 years work experience in different FMCG companies. We have three school-going kids and live in a rented house. He is earning Rs 60,000 per month, which only covers our schooling and house rent expenses. He is trying everything to change jobs but i don’t know why he is not even getting an interview call.

Things are becoming worse day by day , as inflation is high. Is there anything we can change and improve in his resume so that he can at least called for an interview? Depressed Housewife

Dear Depressed Housewife,
This reply is dedicated to all readers who are in a similar predicament and are feeling equally frustrated with their job-hunting situation. After 15 years in the career field, I have discovered the SECRET to successful job-hunting and for the first time i am  going to share it: Successful job-hunting is about understanding and taking of human bias.
Yes, human beings are inherently and deeply BIASED; if you can understand biases and use them to your advantage, then you should not have any trouble getting a job.
The first Bias Blockade is your CV. The CV serves as your ticket to an interview call, get professional help in making your CV and DO NOT at any cost put your picture on it! Let the person reviewing your CV conjure up an image ogre you that is in line with their personal preferences. So many CVs are rejected,  not because of lack of qualifications, but because the picture of the candidate was ‘unattractive’.

The second Bias Blockade is the interview. The decision of hire or reject you is made in the first seven to 11 seconds of the interview. Yes, no matter how awful this sounds, this is the spanking truth! What this means for you is that you need  to MAXIMISE these first few seconds: stand tall, exude confidence and positivity , smile, make eye contact, and look attractive and professional. The interviewer’s eyes make up their mind about you in these first few seconds; the rest of the interview just validates this decision.

Use these tips to play human bias to your advantage in order to GET he job, but please remember that to KEEP the job you need to DELIVER results and performance.  All the success! Workplace Sanity
