India – A Small Profile

Pakistan and India became separate independent countries in 1947. Since then; relations between the two have not always been friendly. The main dispute has been over the question of who should control Kashmir. In 1948 and 1965 the two countries went to war.

Another was between the two countries in 1971 resulted in the formation of Bangladesh.
The capital city of India is Delhi. The official languages are Hindi and English, but many other languages are also spoken in India.

Other important cities in India include Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. Apart from its neighbouring countries, India enjoys good relations with other countries too.
