Indulge In Pears – Nutritional Content

With recent research highlighting the rich nutritional content of sweet, soft and succulent pears (in season now), there are plenty of reasons to add this super fruit to your diet.

*Promotes digestive health.
Loaded with dietary fiber, regular intake of pears helps maintain a healthy digestive system and reduces the occurrence of constipation. The presence of pro-biotics (healthy gut bacteria) reduces the frequency and intensity of acid reflux. Consistent intake is believed to be particularly beneficial when it comes preventing ulcers.

*Ensures heart health.
Pears are one of the few fruits that contain glutathione-an essential antioxidant that is believed to reduce the risk of strokes and cardiac disease by preventing arterial damage. Furthermore, the presence of pectin helps maintain optimal blood pressure and cholesterol levels, two primary triggers of heart attacks.

*Boosts immunity.
Packed with vitamin C, the natural immunity booster, consuming pears strengthens the body’s defence mechanism against bacteria and fungi. Physicians recommended a glass freshly squeezed pear juice to fight off common colds, flu, hay fever and other ailments that arise in winter.

*Prevents bone degeneration.
A lesser known health benefit of pears is their ability to prevent and ease the symptoms of bone and joint diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. This is due to the presence of boron- an essential mineral that helps retain and absorb calcium and zinc in the body, which are vital for healthy bones and strong muscles.
