Interference By Electronic Media In People’s Personal Lives

On Tuesday, 18th of October, I watched a program on a private news channel based on the permission for a man’s four marriages in Islam. The anchor started the program focusing on specifically a famous cricketer, Sohail Tanvir’s personal life who recently got his second marriage.

The anchor invited Sohail’s first wife who by means of the program used harsh language for Sohail and claimed to cut off from his life. She said that Sohail secretly got his second marriage without letting her know and cheated her in this way. A famous Muslim cleric was invited in the program to talk on the permission for a man’s four marriages in Islam whereas a woman was also invited that countered and disagreed Mufti’s statements regarding the permission. The cleric said that Allah Almighty gave the right to a man whether he got one marriage or four marriages but he was only allowed more marriages in the case if he can treat all his wives equally. Also he referred the Holy Quran regarding the clarity of the issue. The woman guest fully supported Sohail’s first wife during the program.

I want to raise a question here why the program was recorded that fully interfered in a man’s internal, personal life! The program made a cricketer’s life so controversial that is condemnable! Although he used his right and did not do any bad act but I could not understand yet what the aim of the program was! If Sohail gets two more marriages, the media don’t have any right to interfere in his personal life! If Sohail’s first wife taunted him that he cheated her as he got married secretly, I want to remind her that she herself married with Sohail secretly! Was her act right at that time?! A person should think twice before speak hence she and the media themselves should realize whether they are right to do so! Interference in others’ lives should always be avoided!

It is a pity that Pakistani electronic media enjoy being involved in useless issues and their heads think that exposing people’s lives is in favor of their channels’ viewership and it is somewhat true as well because the nation has also been addicted to these sorts of programs! If Pakistani electronic media air those programs that can cause to unite dispersed or scattered nation, it would be better in establishing a good society as well as a strong Pakistan and surely Pakistan would progress further!
