Heavy equipment is made at a factory in Taxila which was set up with Chinese help in 1970. Now there are also many privately owned steel and engineering plants throughout the country.
Today, Pakistan produces many small machines, tools and parts for automobiles, as well as heavy machinery for other factories, road rollers, truck chassis, and boilers. The automobile industry produced 887,155 vehicles of various types in 2006-07.
