Iskandar Mirza As President – Profile

Iskandar Mirza succeeded ailing Ghulam Mohammad as acting Governor General in August 1955. His appointment was confirmed in October, the same year after Ghulam Mohammad resigned on 6 October, 1955. To get him elected as President, all the fifty members of the League-United Front nominated him as their nominee to the office.

Following the imposition of constitution, conflicts among the members of National Assembly began to appear which increased the influence of Iskandar Mirza. The Muslim League under the leadership of Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar, in 1955, began to induce discipline in it.

A directive was issued to the Muslim League members of the West Pakistan Assembly to form themselves in to a parliamentary party. After this, political instability started growing further.
