isprInter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) is an administrative military organization within the Pakistan Defence Forces that manages military information with the media and the civil society. The ISPR Board was established in 1949 as Army’s Colonel Shabaz Khan was appointed its first director-general. Commodore Maqbool Hussain is the only naval officer of the Pakistan Defence Forces to have honored to head the directorate.

The ISPR is one of the most respected directorates of Pakistan Armed Forces and its executive officer is also a chief military spokesperson of the Pakistan Armed Forces. The ISPR directorate is operated with joint military of Pakistan Defence Forces alongside with large sum of civilian officers. It meanings as a part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Secretariat, and its purpose is to gather national support for the Armed Forces and reinforce to accomplish the assigned mission while decline the will of the enemy.

The ISPR also issues notifications on the subject of military exercises and alerts related parties and the public media about Pakistan’s ethnic ballistic missile testing program. The ISPR also manages exclusive broadcasting of information regarding Pakistan’s military operations in Wana & Swat. The news about the recent events of the Lal Masjid clash was also disseminated by the ISPR. The ISPR has also produced TV drama serials, such as the commonly popular Alpha Bravo Charlie, Sunehre Din, 6th September Nishan-e-Haider plays and the recent miniseries Wilco.

The armed forces were made in 1947 when Pakistan became independent from the British Empire. Since then, the armed forces have played a key role in the history of Pakistan. The Pakistan Armed Forces are the best organized institution in the country and is highly respected in civil society and the social ranks as an institution. They are the seventh largest in the world in terms of active troops. The armed forces comprise three main branches: Army, Navy and the Air Force, together with a number of paramilitary forces and Strategic Plans Division (SPD) forces.

The ISPR is now supervised by 2-star rank officer Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa who took over from Major General Athar Abbas in June 2012. Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa is a son of well-known personality of Sadiqabad named Dr. Muhammad Saleem Shaheed Bajwa and a brother of famous child specialist Dr. Tanveer Saleem Bajwa. General Asim Saleem Bajwa was appointed in the 34 Punjab Regiment from the Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul, in March 1984.
