Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan Appointed chairman of NCHR

Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan has appointed as chairman of National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR) as he was earlier serving as chief justice of the Republic of Gambia. However retired Justice Ali Nawaz is all set to establish harmony between people related to different beliefs and groups with the help of NCHR.

Retired Justice resigned from the judicial post of Gambia because high differences had emerged between Gambian President Yahya Jammeh and Ali Nawaz on the matter of clearing ex-Gambian naval chief Sarjo Fofana in a treason case. In this regard, Mr. Chohan told to a newspaper that Gambian government was disagree with my decision due to which it was difficult for me to work in that environment.

Ali Nawaz Chohan has also worked as an international judge of the United Nations by the General Assembly and also served as a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Although he has also remained adistrict and sessions judge in various districts in Pakistan. On the other hand, he Mr Chohan was also known as consultant to former president Asif Ali Zardari on administrative law and international law. He is the son of Mola Dad Chohan ho was the first Muslim mayor of Rawalpindi. He was born in Rawalpindi.
