Karachi Central Jail Deputy Superintendent Nazeer Shah Interview

Central Jail Karachi Superintendent Nazeer Shah in an interview has told that there are around 4060 captives in the prisons while there remains space to accommodate 3,200 more.  For us, every captive is dangerous because a criminal is a criminal he added.

In reply to a question he spoke that often the captives are drug adducts. Strictness is observed to avoid any police personnel to get involved in unhealthy activities. When the prisoners are called upon in court, they often consume the drugs in capsule forms. After the revelation, we take strict action against such people.

He said that we do not leave any amount with the prisoners so that they do not buy and drug or try to bribe the lock up men. This could also lead to fights among the prisoners, he added.

The Superintendent said with confidence to take the credit upon changing the lock up security systems. He says that in his presence no crime can be committed.

Nazeer told that presently 300 members work in Central Jail. He expressed satisfaction over the performance of him and his team members. He further told upon that the prisoners are given relief in every way. Often they are forgiven for their wrong does if remains space to do. Literary education is also imparted in jails, he told during the interview. While, those who work in bakery shops and engage in laundry activities are paid with salary for their work.
