Although the Baluchistan province is very rich in minerals and Potwar plateau in Punjab has also many minerals but Pakistan could not extract the minerals due to shortage of capital and lack of technical know how we had not discovered the petroleum and coal nor natural gas deposits.
Later coal of inferior quality and limited quantity of petroleum were found. The Sui gas was discovered in 1952 and the end of 2000 only 50%of our petroleum requirement is being obtained from the local deposits and we need to import the rest from Middle East.
We do not have best quality of iron ore and for the needs of Pakistan Steel Mills we have to import iron ore from Belgium and other countries. Under these circumstance industrial growth could not be done rapidly in Pakistan.
