Local Councillors – Pakistan

The Local Councillors have been assigned a wide role and delegated a reasonable measure of authority in the fields of agriculture, communications, education, food, health, housing, industry, irrigation, law and order, manpower and social welfare.

In order to settle petty disputes arising locally, the councillors have been entrusted with powers of counciliation & arbitration in certain civil, criminal & family matters.

Apart from the local council, there are 40 Cantonment Boards created under the Cantonments Act, 1924 all over the country which are responsible for providing civic amenities and municipal services to the residents of their areas. These Cantonment Boards also have elected members. The strength of membership of a local body is determined on the basis of population of the respective areas.
