A recent video of a man torturing his wife in the presence of their infant child has reaffirmed my believe that in today’s time, there is nothing scarier than human beings who roam so freely on this earth with us. A little relief for me is that the video isn’t from Pakistan and the couple isn’t Pakistani. They are speaking Arabic in the video, so maybe they are Muslims. But such sort of cruelty is highly inhumane regardless of what land it took place.
Throughout the 365 days a year I counsel a large number of women who reveal that their husbands physically abuse or torture them. Some of them listen to me and leave their husbands, while the ones who don’t have enough guts or care more about ‘ke log kya kahenge’ continue to suffer.
A little message to everyone out there who is going through such abuse is ‘take matters in your hands, leave your husbands; there’s nothing bigger than your self esteem and mental health’. I have seen in a lot of cases that parents at times force their daughters to stick with such husbands regardless of all the pain and torture. Little message to parents as well that there is nothing more important than your child.
If you know someone who is going through such an issue, go and help them. Counsel them, guide them, support them and get them out of this mess. It is a sadaqa jariya.
