Maurya Empire

The foundation of the Maurya Empire was a unique event in the history of ancient Indo-Pakistan. Its importance in history lies in many factors. Firstly, chandragupta, founder of the Maurya Empire, expelled the Greeks and liberated this country from the foreign yoke.

Secondly, at the time of Alexander’s invasion the Nandas were ruling this country. The people became disgusted with their cruelty and oppression. Chandragupta ascended the throne of Magadha by defeating the last king of the Nanda dynasty and thereby saved the people from the hands of oppressors.

Thirdly, with the advent of the Maurya, the political consolidation and unification of Indo-Pakistan ‘was resumed with re-doubled enery and the result was the foundation of a vast empire.’ Fourthly, an enlightened system of administration was established during this period.
