Mian Nawaz Sharif’s Regime II (1997-1999)

The General Elections were held on 3 February 1997. The result of the elections was a surprise for many including the analysts and the organizers. PPP which had been well entrenched in the centre Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa for three years got a drubbing it never expected.

Mian Nawaz Sharif after becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan gave a blue print of reforms that he intended to introduce in the country, it laid the ground work for a comprehensive plan to take Pakistan in to the 21st century.

Aimed largely to recondition the economy and the administrative machinery, he took measures revolutionary and radical which could rescue the ship of the state. And the motto he gave for taking on this scheme was ‘Qarz Utaro Mulk Sanwaro’.
