NADRA Asks Muslims To Remove Imama For Photographs OF CNIC

nadra cardPakistan famous and credible journalist Ansar Abbasi in his latest column has written that a civil servant Mohammad Sami Ullah retired recently from Grade-21. Sami Ullah has done masters in economics from Pakistan and US. Ansar wrote that Sami Ullah wears Imama which most of the Pakistan government officials and top bureaucrat do not support.

On 1st April, 2013 Sami Ullah went to NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) office to renew his CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card). The officers at NADRA office asked Sami Ullah to remove Imama from photograph. Sami Ullah was shocked to hear this, he said to the NADRA official that he has gone to many places but no one has objected to his Imama. NADRA official replied that it is now necessary to remove Imama for photograph.

Sami Ullah wrote letter to NADRA chairman on 4th April in which he condemned this act of NADRA and sought action on this but in reply NADRA said that Sami Ullah must co-operate with NADRA staff. Now Sami Ullah has written letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and has told him the complete story.

Ansar Abbasi has written that Sami Ullah told him that Sikhs are not asked to remove their turban (pagri) when their photograph is taken for CNIC which isa good thing. However it is disappointing that in Islamic Republic of Pakistan Sikhs are given permission to wear turban while photographing for CNIC whereas Muslims are asked to remove their Imama.
