Namaz Break Becomes Controversial in Quaid-e-Azam University

Islamabad: Trend of “Islamism” among the students is displeasing the teachers.  Such is the news learnt from the teachers at Quaid-e-Azam University, one of the well established institutions in the federal capital of the country, Islamabad. Often during the lectures, students will leave the classes to say the prayers. The teachers wait and stop delivering the lecture till the students return.

Talking to the French News Agency AFP, Sajjad Akhtar, the Pakistan Studies teacher said that often the students take 30 minutes Namaz break. Sometimes, many of them would not return to take the classes. According to AFP, it has become a common practice in Asia’s biggest universities of Pakistan, at all the departmental levels.

At Quaid-e-Azam University, 15 minutes Namaz break is given to the students. But during the classes listening to Azan, many leave the classes. To some, it is an attempt to cause disturbance in carrying out the daily routine lectures.

Quaid-e- Azam University through emerging Islamization is losing its educational quality and affecting the societal lives of its students, some people said. [alert style=”white”] On other hand, another critic said that its just some liberals are not happy with Islamic Environment in University. [/alert]

Quaid-e-Azam University students Group PhotoWell known researcher of the university Pervez Hood expressed fear saying that within the premises there exist 4 Masjids and no book stalls. He further said that there are no such students who know well how to sing and dance.  Trend of reading novels and poetries among the students has decreased dramatically, he added.
