Nuclear Energy In Pakistan

At present more than 250 nuclear reactors are being used to generate 3 to 4% of electricity. These reactors produce costly electricity and also involve dangers of radio activity so it is not becoming popular.

In Pakistan KANUPP of KESC is producing 137 MW of electricity and another reactor at Mianwali has started to function having a 300 MW capacity. Third reactor is also being set with the help of China and Chashma.

Atomic energy is also being used for agriculture research in Faisalabad, Peshawar, Tando Jam three centres are working. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (National Institute of Food and Agriculture) is functioning for this purpose. This energy is used in Karachi, Jamshoro, Larkana, Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Abbottabad.
