Pakistan & Afghanistan

The gross violation of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of our neighbouring Muslim country, Afghanistan, by Soviet troops in December, 1979, was strongly condemned by Pakistan, along with a vast majority of the international community.

In Pakistan’s perception, this military intervention was not only a violation of the UN character but also an act of naked aggression against our Muslim brethren in Afghanistan. At last, through the effort of the Secretary General of the UN, Pakistan, Russia and Afghanistan reached to an agreement through ‘Geneva Accord’ on April 14, 1988.

According to this agreement, Russian army withdrew from Afghanistan by 15 February, 1989. Pakistan and Iran backed the plan but Mujahideen parties disapproved it, & pledged to first against the Moscow backed regime of Dr. Najeeb till final victory.
