Pakistan & International Cooperation

Pakistan is in the process of industrialization and in order to promote this process it is heavily dependent on foreign trade. International developments and the restrictive policies being adopted by the developed countries affect Pakistan’s economy.

To safeguard her own export interests and that of the developing countries. Pakistan is actively participating in the deliberations of international organizations like GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) and UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on trade and Development).

In view of the deteriorating situation of world trading system, it is the policy of the Government not only to protect export interests but also ensure greater market access on more favourable terms, through these international forums. Besides these, Pakistan has also entered into a number of bilateral and barter arrangements to promote its trade and export interests.
