Pakistan Longest Serving Rulers & Military Generals

Ayub Khan, Zia ul haq, pervez musharrafPakistan’s political setup has faced problems from the early years till today. On some occasions Pakistan was ruled by democratic rulers while on other times military leaders took power by force.

Pakistan’s longest serving rulers are all military generals: Field Marshal Ayub Khan, General Zia ul Haq and General Musharraf.

General Zia ul Haq ruled for the longest period which is 11 years, one month and 12 days. He died in an air crash which is believed to be a murder rather than an accident.

Field Marshal Ayub Khan ruled for 10 years, four months and 26 days making him the second in the list.

The third position is of General Pervez Musharraf who came in power on 12 October 1999, he served as a Chief Executive for three years and then become president and remained in office till 18th August 2008. In total he ruled Pakistan for almost 9 years.
