Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Corruption Scandal

PMDCThe Pakistan Medical and Dental Council which certifies medical colleges, doctors and other medical professionals has found in alleged corruption. PMDC is accused of unlawful activities in the approval of doctors as well as also blamable for misdeeds in the registration of medical colleges.

It has said in a special investigation report that PMDC is facing corrupt deeds in the council due to which health professional is in high risk. However, several cases have been registered against PMDC for doing wrongdoings in the registration of private colleges. Council is only registering those doctors who are associated with the colleges recognized by the PMDC as it is must to be noted that any doctor who is not registered with PMDC is not allowed to practice in Pakistan or in abroad.

Therefore, it has become hard to get approved for the recognition of the PMDC for many medical colleges as some colleges may have to suffer for several months in this regard. It is worth mentioning here that PMDC has recognized 19 medical and dental colleges from 2010 to 2013 including eight colleges of Punjab, five medical colleges in Sindh, three in Karachi, and two in Lahore, Islamabad and AJK.
