There are 13 units which as per record of 2000-01 generate thermal electricity using oil and gas as fuel to the extent of 4921 MW. This work is also done by WAPDA. In addition to this 12 power houses are functioning in private sector generating 5417 MW electricity and Karachi Electric Supply Company is generating 1756 MW electricity by using its own power house.
Thus annually the total electricity generated works out to 17772 MW. 22 more projects have been added having production capacity of 7083 MW. Use of Electricity: The percentage of use of electricity for various is as follows.
(1) Domestic use 46.4%
(2) Commercial use 4.9%
(3) Industrial use 263%
(4) Agricultural use 11%
(5) Government services 11.3%
