Pakistani Rice And Tobacco

Pakistan produces over 5.5 million tons of rice annually. Rice grows well in warm places that have plenty of moisture. The rice plantations are mostly lower Punjab and send. The Irri, Basmati and Desi varieties of rice are grown here. The best among these is Basmati, which is m0stly exported to the Middle East. Other varieties are exported to various Asian countries.

Tobacco is also an important cash crop. The best tobacco -growing areas are in mordant and Peshawar districts. Tobacco is also exported.

Today in Pakistan we have many tube wells. Water from deep below the surface of the ground is pumped to the surface by diesel or electricity powered not as suitable for for irrigaing large areas as canal irrigation. Charsa or Pur is common way of lifting water from a well. This consists of a bucket attached to a pulley. Animals are used to pull the water to the surface.
