Pakistani Students Shines At International Level

This is apropos of the letter ‘Spelling competitions for children’ (August 8) by Viqar Zaman. I agree with his point that Pakistani students should also compete in this competitions at international level. But I want to inform him that Dawn newspaper have conducted Education Spelling Bee in hundreds of schools in Pakistan. Regarding Pakistani students who according to him are inclined towards sports have also won laurels at international level.

Recently four teams of talented Pakistani students performed marvelously in the 44th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) held in United States, 43rd International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in Estonia, 23rd International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in Singapore and 53rd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Argentina.

The teams representing Pakistan bagged one Silver medal, four Bronze Medals and two Honorable Mentions in the International Science Olympiads 2012,

Pakistani students also won The Karl Popper Debating Championship (KPDC), one of the largest high school tournaments in the world, beating South Korea in the finals of the event held in Mexico in July.
