These car bazaars are usually organized on a weekly or monthly basis. You can find a wide range of vehicles usually priced at 10 to 15% less than those offered by used car dealers, which also means that you will not have a pay third party commisions.

Although economy and mid-size cars (800-1200cc) are the hot-ticket items you will also find wagons, pickup trucks and hi-roofs, with prices ranging between Rs 50,000 and 500,000. And if it is your lucky day, you can even drive away with a well-maintained, post 1990 seden on luxury car, for less than a million rupees.

If you want to cell your vehicle, you can easily book a space to showcase it at one of these bazars; daily rental rates for space range between Rs 150 and 200. In Karachi, car bazars are usually held in Block A, North Nazimabad, New Karachi(the largest bazar with more than 5,000 vehicles on display) and Ibrahim Hyderi, Landhi. Occasionally these bazaars are also held in conjuction with the Sunday Bazaars in Clifton and Phase VIII, DHA. In Lahore, Samanabad and Mozang Road are well-known venues, while in Islamabad, a car bazaar is held at G-9 Markaz.

Remember the following before you start shopping:
* Take a reliable mechanic with you who can check the car’s condition, including the state of the engine, suspension, gears and shock absorbers.

*Verify the vehicle’s documents by entering the chassis or engine number into the Online Vehicle Verification portals that have been launched for Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. They provide information on the legal status, taxes and insurance paid to date and flag stolen vehicles. This information can also be verified at NADRA office.

* Use pay orders to make payments. This minimizes the risk of fraud, while providing a documented transaction history.
