Pervez Musharraf – Brief Profile

In October 1999 PML-N President and then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was deposed by General Pervez Musharraf who took over the government. Nawaz Sharif and his family were exiled to Saudi Arabia and Benazir Bhutto has also left the country. In June 2001 General Musharraf was sworn in as president.

The tragic events in New York and Washington on 11 September 2001-universally known as 9/11-completely changed the world scene. Pakistan was and still is deeply affected by this as the USA attacked neighboring Afghanistan in return. General elections were held in October 2002 and Zafarullah Khan Jamali was elected as the prime minister, followed by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain,

Shaukat Aziz, Muhammad Mian Soomro and Yousaf Raza Gillani. Yousuf Raza Gillani was made Prime Minister by PPP government as in General Elections 2008 PPP won the elections and formed coalition government after that in August 2008 President Musharraf resigned as president of Pakistan.
