PPP is referred as one of the leading political parties of the country which has come into power for five times so far in 1970, 1977, 1988, 1993 and 2008 respectively. PPP was formed on 30th November 1967 by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as a left-wing political party with the slogan Roti Kapra aur Makaan (Food, Clothes and Housing). Just after its inception, PPP received quick prominence among poor, farmers, workers, and students in West Pakistan. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto successfully made social and economic reforms which true help in the better life of Pakistan’s masses.

Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who was used to gather huge number of people in all of his political meetings and gathering got tremendous success due to his tireless work for the people of Sindh. During 1977, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was found to be involved in the murder of a political enemy and was hanged on 4th April in 1979. After which he was buried to his ancestral village at Garhi Khuda Baksh neat to his father’s grave.

However, daughter of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto became chairman of PPP in 1982 as she successfully came into power after winning the general elections of 1988. [alert style=”white”] Late Benazir Bhutto was emerged as the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1988 after which she again became Prime Minister for the second time in 1993’s general elections. [/alert]

In 2007, Benazir Bhutto came to Pakistan for general elections but unfortunately she lost her life on 27th December, 2007 in Rawalpindi. Due to which Benazir’s husband Asif Ali Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appointed as co-chairman of the party after assassination of beloved leader of PPP Benazir.

Although PPP came into power after successfully winning general elections which held on 18th February 2008.Asif Ali Zardari emerged as President of Pakistan and Yousuf Raza Gillani became Prime Minister in the PPP’s government.
