Prepare For The Monsoon

While the monsoon mean respite from the sweltering heat and humidity, they can also damage property in a number of ways.
Here are some tips that can prevent damage to your property: * Roofs and terrace floor should be inspected for cracks that allow water to seep into the house. Since most houses have flat roofs, the first thing is to ensure that you have an effective drainage system in place to prevent water accumulation. Another options to consider is having the roof water-proofed; most vendors who water-proof roofs give a five-year warranty, which will ensure that you do not have to deal with seepage issues during that time period.

* Ensure that all ledges and pipes (that lead form the roof to the ground), as well as the sewerage system are clear and free of debris; this will prevent the overflowing of rainwater.

*For houses with basements and lofts, make sure that the ceilings do not have any cracks that can allow seepage; have the roofs sealed if needed.

*Humidity and moisture can damage furniture, wooden floors and fixtures made of steel and wood. To prevent this, wooden elements should be waxed and steel items should be coated with water-proof paint to prevent corrosion.

*To reduce moisture, ensure that there is sufficient cross-ventilation; consider purchasing air-ventilators and dehumidifiers to reduce moisture. These will help prevent the occurrences ogdc mounds and mildew.

*To prevent insects infestation, carpet should be vaccumed regulary and thoroughly. Place camphor balls, cloves or neem leaves to prevent closets, desk drawers and other storage areas from becoming a breeding ground for insects.

*If you have a garden, get rid of loose branches and trees that can fall and damage property during rainstroms.

*If your property has been constructed below ground-level, place sandbags at the entrance to prevent water from flooding in.
