Muzaffarabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Barrister Sultan Mahmood has won Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) by-poll with 15,485 votes on Sunday. According to the unofficial results from all 111 polling stations, Barrister Sultan Mahmood defeated Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)’s Chaudhry Mohammad Ashraf by almost 3,000 votes who bagged 12,559 votes.
PPP’s Ashraf has also received from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as former president Asif Ali Zardari asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to support Chaudhry Mohammad Ashraf. However supporters of Sultan Mahmood celebrated his victory at Mian Mohammad Road near his election office by chanting slogans in his favor. PTI’s barrister thanked his all supporters and people who voted in his favor.
PTI’s chairman Imran Khan has also congratulated Barrister Sultan Mahmood who joined PTI as its regional chief by resigning from the AJK Assembly. On the other hand, AJK Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Munir Ahmed Chaudhry also appreciated the rangers’ vital role in order to maintain peaceful atmosphere at the polling stations. Other than AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed and his cabinet members also encouraged people of Mirpur through campaigns after announcement of the election.
