Ramazan Shopping At Khajoor Bazar, Karachi

Located in Saddar and accessible via Napier and MA Jinnah Roads, the blusting Khajoor Bazaar offers home accessories and foodie options – in additions to its specialty – juicy , mouth – watering khajoors for weddings, parties, and of course Ramazan and Eid.
A world of dates . . . Visitors have to navigate narrow, winding lanes, packed with makeshift stalls set up on pavements in front of shops to find what they are looking for.

As its name suggests, Khajoor Bazaar’s main attraction is its dates, and is reputed to be Pakistan’s largest wholesale date   market. Dates on offer include Aseel, Began Jangi and Dhaka, from Balochistan, Dera Ismail Khan and Sindh respectively; imported varieties from Iran, Iraq and Syria are also available. Ajwa Dates – high-end, premium quality dates from Mecca and Medina – are available these days, since Ramazan is around the corner, And people are willing to splurge on them.
A treat for shoppers . . . Khajoor Bazaar’s other  treasure include traditional Sindhi tops, block-printed ajraks, yards of brightly striped sussi chunri (tie-and-die) fabric, intricately embroidered rallis (patchwork throws), embellished Balochistan wraps, imitation Jewellery and interior decor accessories – all available at wholesale prices. Spicy chutneys and colorful spices can also be found there.

Make a food stop. . . Eateries and food stands offers basic but delicious desi snacks, such as pakoras served with chutney and colorful papadoms – not to mention fresh fruit juice, faluda and gola gandas respite to shoppers after hours of haggling and roaming.

Around the bazaar . . . A few minutes` drive from Khajoor Bazaar are the famous Kakri Ground and Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Park, a popular recreational spot where children can be seen playing soccer. The Jaffer Fuddoo Tower – a cultural heritage site – and the shrine of the Sufi mystic, Shah Alam Bokhari are other ironic landmarks in the area.

The real estate take . . . Commercial property options are limited to standalone shops ranging from 15 to 100 square feet. The price and rentals of these shops have increased by 10th to 12 % in the last three years.

In a nutshell. . . With so much offer, Khajoor Bazaar is a shoppers’ haven, especially for those on a budget!
