Reconstruction Of Pakistan

At the time, People’s Party took over power the people were in the grip of acute sense of despondency as a result of military defeat. They had lost confidence. One hundred and twenty thousand prisoners of war including 91 thousand soldiers were in the custody of India. There was general uncertainly about the future of the country.

From the time of the movement against Ayub Khan to December 1971, the trade and commerce had received a serious setback and industries remained closed. Economically the country had become almost bankrupt. Government had no funds to pay salaries in January.

The stock position of the food items was very precarious. No country of the world was prepared to send even wheat to Pakistan because they had no hope of receiving any money for that.
