Shahid Afridi Beats Asif Ali Zardari in Tax Payment

Lahore: Famous Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has become a first cricketer after paying the highest 2.6 million taxes in financial year 2012-13. According to the tax directory delivered by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Afridi paid 2.6 million while the second number in the list is magnificent spinner Saeed Ajmal who paid 2.1 million in the same year.

Boom Boom Afridi sixes who is recognized by his super sixes had left behind the other cricketers and now it has revealed that Afridi also beat former president Asif Ali Zardari in the race of highest tax payer. Asif Ali Zardari paid Rs1.4 million in income tax, almost half the amount paid by Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi who paid Rs2.7 million last year, according to the tax directory circulated by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The amount paid by Afridi is also several times higher than the taxes paid by prominent politicians and top administrators of the country, revealed the directory. But Afridi can never be closer to the billionaires of the country like Arif Habib who paid Rs80.7 million in income tax.

The country’s tax authorities have been implementing a stricter approach to collecting taxes from celebrities and athletes to meet annual tax targets, analysts say. According to tax experts, on an average any person getting a monthly salary of around Rs120,000 pays around Rs80,000 income tax, annually.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar paid Rs824,891 in income tax. Former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf paid Rs177,163 income tax last year.
