Shell Tameer Project Achievements in Pakistan

shell tameer Shell LiveWIRE is a flagship youth enterprise initiative of Royal Dutch Shell, which in Pakistan was launched a decade ago as Tameer. Tameer has helped set-up 3,000 young businesses that have created employment opportunities for over 25,000 people – an impactful and sustainable social investment in Pakistan. In 2012 Tameer successfully entered another phase of its lifecycle, shifting from ‘awareness creation’ to ‘enterprise generation’.

This enterprise generation phase includes activities devoted to nurturing new businesses through strategic collaborations with Shell’s Lubricant business and CARE International’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Project (CIIP).

In 2013, Tameer engaged over 10,000 young people including 1,000 women in ultra-poor communities in the agricultural belt of Sindh and Punjab through enterprise generation activities and trainings.

Enterprise generation workshops for 300 women resulted in 75 non-traditional start-ups, i.e. providing clean energy solutions, plastic recycling plants and women-led motorcycle mechanic shops. The scope and outreach of the programme increased by 200% with an improved success rate from 10% to 30%. .

Some of the significant global and local achievements of Tameer are as follows:

  • Trained 300 master trainers through TIDE internship Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions
  • 13 Social Action Plans benefiting 5,000 people executed successfully in Sind and Punjab regions
  • Tameer received highest number of LiveWIRE Go and Trade Grants (six), totaling £9,000
  • 51 young businesses recognized through Tameer local awards
  • 1 Million (£7,500) grants offered through local partners
