Small Dams In Pakistan

Besides large irrigation projects a number of small dams have also been built. They irrigate relativeky smaller areas and are located on small streams and command small areas in hilly regions. They are therefore located in the Western Highlands.

Some of them have been built by WAPDA while otherr by the Small Dams Organization (SDO) set up by the Agricultural Development Corporation. Rawal Dam is on of the small dams on the Kurang river. Besides supplying water to Islamabad, it irrigates about 5,000 heetares.

Kanpur Dam on the Haro river irrigates about 15,000 heatares in Abbottabad, Attock and Rawalpindi district. Warsak, Tanda, Baran and Gomal are some of the important small dams of NWFP. Balochistan has a number of small dams.
